Roleplay Rules

  • First off: When an issue occurs, don’t panic! Do your best to remain IC, and send a clip of the rule-breaking behavior to Calico County Tickets after the interaction has ended.

    • We understand that not everyone has recording capabilities, nor do we expect every single interaction to end up with a clip. That being said, recordings do help the process resolve in a more timely manner. We recommend Medal.tv, NVIDIA Shadowplay, or OBS Replay Buffer.

  • Allow admins some time to review and handle the ticket. They may not be online at that very moment and they’ll address your concerns as soon as they can. Do not break rules just because someone broke them on you! If we see that happening, you will also face consequences.

  • Examples of Fail RP: (Included, but not limited to)

    • Breaking character during a scene

    • Breaking the New Life Rule / Fear for Life scenarios

    • Not roleplaying out injuries appropriately

    • Breaking hogties or blindfolds

    • RDM / Vehicle Deathmatch

    • Utilizing game mechanics in an unrealistic way: for example, sending in-game alerts for police while tied up, held at gunpoint or incapacitated, or sending doctor alerts while still in a fight/before you have been knocked out.

    • Generally non-serious or not-1889-appropriate behavior or language

  • Forced RP & Powergaming:

    • No forms of forced roleplay are ever permitted in Calico County.

    • Dismemberment, Torture, Forced Adoption, Sexual Assault, Forcing a Perma-Death, or other power-dynamic roleplay is not permitted.

    • Using game items to force other players into a situation (ex: placing campfires at the only exit/entrance to a building so someone can’t get to you.

    • Adult-oriented or Erotic roleplay is never permitted in Calico County.

  • “Head Popping”: Everyone disconnects from time to time! If you encounter repeated crashes in a specific game process or area, please make a ticket so we can look into it.

    • While we do not expect every player to drop everything until the DC’ed player logs back on, we do expect that all players will uphold fair play and positive intent towards the disconnected user when they return.

    • Acknowledge when you logged back in that you ‘got a sudden headache’ - this will indicate to folks that your game crashed, without breaking character.

    • In PvP scenarios, do not take advantage of a player that may have crashed, and be mindful of the delay as that player loads back in.

  • Alternate Characters: We encourage players to play more than one character or storyline if they so desire. However - alternate characters should live in different geographic locations within Calico County, and occupy different social circles from their counterparts. They should have no, or limited, knowledge of their player’s other characters. They are different people who live different, separate lives from each other. A given player's characters are not allowed to interact between themselves in any way. This includes, but is not limited to:

    • Using funds from one character to purchase items for another character

    • Sending meta information between two characters through telegrams or other means

    • Characters injuring each other “off-screen”

    • Having multiple of one player’s characters hired at the same business or posse camp

    • Having multiple characters in the same gang or business group

  • If a particular player chooses to have characters that are on ‘either side’ of the law; e.g. a Marshal ‘main’ and a criminal ‘alt’, that is now (as of Calico 2.2: Release Date Dec 6 2022) permitted; so long as in a specific storyline, the player chooses one side only; no flip-flopping between characters in the midst of scenes and stories. Their law character must also recuse themselves (player-side, OOC) from investigating their own criminal character, or any groups their character is affiliated with.
